Each generation of my family has served in the military, To me, being part of a legacy family is interesting because of the shared experiences and differences in each service.
though some have seen conflict and some served during peace time.
I find it cool listening to those lessons and seeing how it reflects the modern history, and how it reflects our family’s values. Military has not only been my life, but it has become part of my values as I grow up.
I’ve studied history and have talked about military history with my dad, so I tried to create my own military battles.
One of the photos shows what happens when trench warfare moves over the top to “no man’s land” and becomes hand to hand combat.
I didn’t have a beach head or full forest, but I tried to use what I had to make it look like a real battle. It’s not actually a specific battle but more the idea of different battle situations that I have read about.
I tried to show some examples of what I imagined trench warfare would look like, or tried to show set ups for things I have read about like ambushes, flank attacks, suppressive fire, and scout and sniper positions.
I tried to take some of the photos from the perspective of what it might look like to be standing in a battle.
The photos in my front yard show a group defending the high ground near the tree and the opponents attacking uphill.
To most of the world, those few plastic soldiers may seem insignificant. Through my eyes, I see them as stories and sacrifices.
Those soldiers were inspired by the soldiers who fought for peace and justice upon the lands. They believed in their reasons for fighting and in the people they served with enough to risk their lives or make the ultimate sacrifice.
Yes, they are toys, but as I have gotten older, they represent every single one of the soldiers from every effort to secure our safety and freedom.
